Formed in Buffalo in 1986, Goo Goo Dolls grew from punk and alternative beginnings into one of pop rock's best-known acts. Frontman John Rzeznik and bassist Robby Takac have sustained the band's career across more than three decades, with emotionally direct songwriting at its core. Their landmark 1998 album Dizzy Up the Girl delivered enduring hits including “Iris,” “Slide” and “Black Balloon.” “Iris,” featured in the film City of Angels, became a defining song for generations of listeners.

The group's catalog also spans songs such as “Name,” “Here Is Gone” and “Big Machine,” alongside newer material from 2022's Chaos in Bloom. Their live shows are known for energetic rock arrangements and crowd singalongs, with “Iris” often serving as a memorable communal moment. At Frost Bank Center, Goo Goo Dolls share the bill with English rock band The Struts and headliners Def Leppard; the event listing does not specify set times or an opening-act order.

San Antonio's arena setting gives this concert a distinctly large-scale feel. Frost Bank Center is on the city's east side, with downtown destinations and the River Walk offering options for visitors planning time around the show.
